
The Battle of Edgehill was fought during the English Civil War in 1642. It was the first main battle of the Civil War. It was fought in Southern Warwickshire on Sunday 23rd October. The two forces were the Cavaliers and the Roundheads. Cavaliers were the Royalists and the Roundheads were the Parliamentarians. The Roundheads were lead by the King at the time; Charles 1 and his nephew - Prince Rupert of the Rhine.

Royalists are have been given a very famous nickname. This famous nickname is called the Cavaliers. Orientated from the word cavalry - an army which rode on horse back - they were nicknamed the Cavaliers. This name spread throughout the whole army and became very famous to them.
However, on the other hand the parliamentarians were nick named the Roundheads for the way they looked. Not for the round helmet but for their stero typical round hair cut.

15,000 soilders
2,300 men on horse back
700 Dragoons
